Keep a can of spray starch by your ironing board.
Use it to spray stubborn creases to make them easier to remove.
After washing fabrics a spray of starch makes them more manageable to cut and sew.
Starching the background fabric improves the stitching when appliqué-ing by machine.
If you are doing turn under appliqué, painting the turn under section with starch helps to get a nice, smooth, crisp fold.
If you have to unpick a seam, spray starch it first. It not only makes it easier to undo, it also helps stop the fabric distorting.

Small pieces of left over batting make great dusters!

If you want to fussy cut a square, place masking tape along the lines of your square according to the size you want to cut – eg. If you want a 6 “ square, place masking tape along the six inch lines on your square. It enables you to easily see if you have it in the right place, and after you have finished cutting, the masking tape comes off easily.

If you are quilting parallel lines or a grid (eg cross hatcing) use masking tape to keep your stitching straight. It peels off easily and doesn’t leave marks to be removed.
